Caring for your Mexican Treasures

At Casa Frida, every object is handmade by passionate artisans. Here are our tips to ensure they stay beautiful for years to come.

Oilcloth Tablecloths

Our Mexican oilcloths are sturdy and designed for daily life, but here is how to keep them vibrant:

  • Creases: If your tablecloth arrives folded, spread it out in the sun for a few hours. Alternatively, you can iron it on the reverse side only, using a very low heat setting, without steam, and placing a protective cloth between the iron and the oilcloth.
  • Cleaning: A simple wipe with a soft sponge and soapy water is enough. Avoid the abrasive side of the sponge and harsh chemicals like bleach.

Ex-votos and Tinplate

Tinplate is an authentic material but it is sensitive to humidity.

  • Maintenance: Simply dust with a soft, dry cloth. Never use water.
  • Outdoor use: These pieces are designed for indoor use. If you wish to hang them outdoors, it is essential to apply a coat of clear anti-rust varnish beforehand to protect the metal.

Textiles and Embroideries

To preserve the delicate colored threads and natural cotton:

  • Washing: Always hand wash in cold or lukewarm water (30°C max).
  • Pro Tip: Add a glass of white vinegar to the first rinse to help fix the colors. Dry flat in the shade to prevent the sun from fading the intensity of the dyes.
